Teks' Dream Page 5

  “WHAT?”

Temple wasn’t sure which of the males had shouted, but the yells had definitely come from multiple locations. The only shout she was clear of was female. It seemed Katie was just as anxious for answers as the males.

“Well, around 8 months for the offspring to be born and then we would have to wait until maturity to find out their abilities, of course. But still, I think it is very clear that the odds of creating female offspring within a Chaetdorian/human mating are incredibly high.”

“How high?” Temple asked, biting her bottom lip in an attempt not to laugh. There were five very pale, nervous faces staring worriedly up at their mates at that moment. She had a feeling that four of the females had been hiding things from the males in their lives. And a certain Techno had was being given the death stare by his mate.

“Judging by the human population in this room I would say 5 out of 5. Or maybe I should correct that to 6 out of 5, what with Hannah carrying two.”

And that was when all hell broke loose.

  Epilogue

Several moons had passed since SIS had outed the four human females and Hex and told of the pregnancies. Hex had known about Katie, of course. He was a Techno after all. Katie, on the other hand, had not been privy to the information that Hex had chosen to impregnate her. She had not been best pleased, at least not with him keeping it from her. She wasn’t the only one a little peeved either. The other males had not suspected a thing, each of their mates keeping it from them. The four had quickly carted their females off for punishment. If you can call what they had in mind punishment. Hex, seeing the others throw their mates over their shoulders and march off had decided to re-enact his first mating with Katie and followed suit, leaving Teks and Temple alone on the command deck.

He had wasted no time in stripping her off and mating her in his chair. Fuck, every time he sat in it now he pictured it all over again. And judging by his mate’s wet heat and constant wiggles in his lap she was suffering the same fate.

“If you keep that up - and I don’t care who is here to witness it - I will take you right here and now,” he whispered in her ear low enough that only she would hear. The flush to her cheeks and the quickness of breath let him know that she found the idea intriguing.

“There is one question none of us has asked yet,” Torq stated. They had all gathered on the command deck in preparation of Station X1’s hail. They knew that the moment their ship came within distance of the station’s scanners there would be one.

“Then ask it,” his mate replied. Temple had been besieged with questions almost every second of the moon. The only time she was free from them was when they were alone in Teks’ cabin. Or when Teks would throw everybody off the deck and have SIS seal them in so he could enjoy the pleasures of having a mate.

  “Who is your father?”

Teks had been waiting for that one. He was surprised it wasn’t the first question to be asked. “Totch,” he informed them.

  “Totch? Seriously?”

Temple only nodded. Learning of her father's death had been difficult. Despite growing up thinking he had abandoned her, she had always held out hope that one day they would meet. At least she now knew a little more about him, had even seen what he had looked like after Teks had had SIS pull up images of him from the ship’s files.

“Yes. It seems he was on his way back to inform us of his mating, and no doubt his unborn child, when his shuttle crashed.”

“Hold on,” Katie pipped up from Hex’s lap, “Wasn’t that the guy SIS was talking about the other day, the one that programmed her hologram?”

“Yes,” SIS exclaimed as she appeared in the room in an array of blue sparkles. “And didn’t he do a fine job.” Then as quickly as she appeared, she disappeared. They had hoped that she was finished with the theatrics, what with her appearing on the console screen over the last few moons, but it seemed not.

If not for his mate’s warm body in his arms, Teks would have sworn the world had slipped away from under his feet at that news. “Fuck!” he yelled, causing Temple to jump in his lap. “How am I meant to reprogram her now?”

Totch had been his closest friend. He had already confided in Temple, told her that he had yet to upgrade anything the male had worked on since learning of his death. He didn't want to erase what he thought had been the only proof left of the male’s existence. Totch had cleared out his cabin before his travels, had taken everything with him. All that had remained of him was the ship's systems he was in charge of maintaining. And even though he had Temple now, genetic proof that the male he had loved as a brother of blood had existed, he still couldn’t see himself altering the male’s work.

“You’re not,” Temple declared. “She may be a tad dramatic…”

“Don’t forget annoying and interfering,” Teks imputed.

“But she looked after me when I was scared, and got me help when I needed it most. She brought us together, Teks. I owe her everything. She’s my friend.”

Fuck, SIS was going to drive him crazy. There was no way he could alter anything with her programming whatsoever now, not with his mate’s fondness of her.

Just then the communications console beeped, all eyes turning towards it. This was what they had been waiting for. It was time for them to find out what they had missed during their unplanned stay on Earth. Time for them to find the rest of the males on board mates. Time for them to find a new home, a new world, where they could raise their surprisingly female offspring in peace.

And time for Teks to show his amazing, beautiful Chaetdorian mate the universe and all the wonders of it.
